Twenty years at the bedside first
My nursing journey began as an LPN/LVN, where I quickly learned that great nursing is about more than clinical skills. Every shift meant educating patients, guiding families through difficult moments, explaining complex treatments in ways they could understand, and helping people feel confident about caring for themselves after discharge.
Teaching has always been part of nursing.
That passion led me to continue my education, earning my RN, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). More than two decades of experience eventually led me into nursing education, where I've had the privilege of preparing future nurses for both the NCLEX and the realities of patient care.
Why clinical judgment, not memorization
One lesson became clear almost immediately: students weren't failing because they lacked motivation or intelligence. They were struggling to apply what they had learned in real clinical situations.
The NCLEX doesn't reward memorization—it measures clinical judgment.
To bridge that gap, I began creating my own lesson plans, remediation resources, NCLEX-style practice questions, and Next Generation NCLEX case studies that focused on helping students think like nurses. Over time, those resources grew into a comprehensive question bank designed to strengthen confidence, decision-making, and clinical reasoning.
Why I built the platform myself
As my teaching resources expanded, I realized students needed more than another collection of practice questions. They deserved an experience that truly reflected today's NCLEX—one that challenged their thinking, identified knowledge gaps, and provided meaningful feedback to support improvement.
Instead of settling for existing solutions, I decided to build the platform I wished my students had. Despite having no software development background, I learned the technology needed to create a learning experience designed by a nurse educator, for nursing students.
Every feature exists for one reason: to help students prepare with confidence for the exam—and for the patients they'll care for afterward.
Wellness, not an afterthought
Preparing for nursing school and the NCLEX is demanding. The long hours, constant pressure, self-doubt, and emotional stress can be just as challenging as the coursework itself.
That's why Calyura is built around the whole student—not just exam scores.
Alongside personalized NCLEX preparation, we've included wellness and resilience tools that encourage healthy study habits, reflection, stress management, and balance. Because becoming a great nurse means caring for yourself as intentionally as you'll care for others.
At Calyura, our goal isn't simply to help you pass the NCLEX.
It's to help you become the confident, compassionate nurse your future patients deserve.
